It sounds so fancy, doesn’t it? As if I ever travel – HA. I know people do it on the regular. I’ll admit I’m slightly envious, until I realize how little effort I want to put into my actual trips. Even just traveling to and from Seattle solo was an adventure. I don’t get out much, so everything is new and remarkable to me. Hell, I thought taking the tram to baggage claim was super chic.
My best friend lives in Seattle, so I’ve been once before. I love everything about the city. The weather, the activities, the food, the coffee (still dreaming about the coffee…) Anyway, I had the chance to make a quick trip out there to see her again this past week. I haven’t been away from my baby since she was born, so I felt like it came at a good time and was a much-needed getaway.
I always forget to take decent photos when I’m wandering around. I think part of me wants to subconsciously ensure that I truly take in the scenery around me and the company I’m with. I realize that the older I get, the more and more I try to focus in on the present moment(s). However, I did manage to capture a few.
On Friday we ventured around downtown; checking out the new Amazon Go concept store, as well as other parts of the Amazon campus. It’s much bigger than I anticipated, and so much cooler. They even had a cute little dog park between two of the buildings. We also stopped by Pike’s Place Market, which is always a must for me. I couldn’t get over the gorgeous floral arrangements they had. In Phoenix, you get half the amount for twice the price. I had serious fresh flower envy – if I could have brought a bouquet home with me in one piece, you better believe I would have.
We ended up making breakfast at home and lying low most of Saturday, as we had the Capital Hill Block Party to hit up later that evening, and knew it would be a late night (were old and have to prep for events like these) It ended up being really fun. Loud music, a ton of fabulous people watching, and delicious craft beer. The crowds were a bit much, and at some point while trying to get a better glimpse at the Betty Who set, the pushing and shoving became a bit too much and we had to bow out. It sort of surprised me that the cops didn’t seem to be more concerned. When we realized how late it was, we walked down to Sizzle Pie for a quick bite, then home and to bed. All in all, it was a great night.
Part of the fun of traveling for me is trying new foods that I can’t get at home. I had the opportunity to try some Pig tails, and they were so ridiculously good, you guys. If you are an adventurous foodie, I can’t recommend them enough. Think short ribs, but fattier and full of flavor.
Sunday was spent recovering and making our way to West Seattle, where we ate at Marination Ma Kai. It was gorgeous day out and the view was insane. I had a few spam sliders and Spicy Beef tacos – all of which were delicious.
I had two wonderful hostesses the entire time I was there; hospitable, accommodating and tolerant of my touristy ways. I love them both to bits and can’t wait to be back to visit with my daughter and hubs in tow.
