The EVOZ video baby monitor: The eyes and ears of your nursery

Friday, Friday...gotta get down on Friday! Oh Rebecca Black, you did us proud, girl.

Video baby monitors! There are so many, amirite? I have been researching for at least a month, trying to find one that Trav and I both like, that doesn't have crappy reviews. It's hard, y'all. None of them have really impressed me.

When I was pregnant, we both agreed that we should only need an audio monitor, considering our house isn't huge - there's only about 8 feet or so of space between our room and our daughter's room. We didn't think we'd need to be able to physically see her, when we could just walk into her room to check-in whenever necessary.

Fast forward 6 months into parenthood - and we are now singing a different tune. There have been so many times when she's napping, and we've been outside grilling, or in the middle of a show or movie, that Trav has said 'Okay, maybe we should have invested in a video monitor.'

Well, I finally ran across Evoz, and being the huge tech fan that I am; It peaked my interest. After reading up on their stats, and finding out they work directly with the Sleep Lady, I was sold. We received it the same day, and it took no more than 10 minutes to set-up.

It comes with it's own application, which is available on both Android and iOS. It has alerts, that give you the heads up on your phone in real-time if your little is crying or in distress. It has it's own set of lullabies, and a talkback feature, so you can speak directly to your kiddo if you are across the house. It has the capability to record video, and snap pictures - You also have the option to add family members, if they ever want to login from their phones or tablets to check in as well.

I could go on and on. The features are smart, logical, and impressive. It even collects data on the stats of your babes diaper changes, temperature of the room, etc...Just take a look at this exert directly from their website.

“The smart monitor automatically collects crying and room data and can be supplemented with feeding, changing, sleeping, milestones and temperature data parents collect in one, easy to navigate and shared repository. Export feature enables sharing data with coaches and doctors in both graphical & raw data format.”

We have been having so much fun with it. The best part for me is the convenience of being able to handle everything directly from my phone. The quality of the video streaming is HD, as well. Just take a look at this clip I grabbed the other night.

Now, It goes without saying that with every baby product, there are a set of pros and cons. While this device is without a doubt something I believe in and praise highly, there are a few things I feel the need to mention that could be improved, or may hinder some users.

  1. When you go to bed at night, most of us turn our phones on silent to avoid being disturbed. I noticed that when the alerts come of her crying, they do not ping unless your phone is off silent or turned up. I would like for it to alert me, even with my phone being in silent mode.
  2. The audio feature and video itself are obviously only available if you are in the app. This isn't really anything you can improve per se; it's just an inconvenience if your phone dies, or you close out of the application.

That being said; this is a great option if you're in the market for a smart baby monitor. You can even use it as your kids grow, keeping an eye on them in their room when they play, and taking it with you if needed. (yes, it's so easy that I would even consider it transit friendly.)

The monitor is currently available on their website (when you sign up, you get 15% off!) and Amazon. It may seem like a steep investment; but for me, a worthwhile one. Have a few family members and friends pitch in, and add this to the list of pre-baby musts!
