One of our favorite ways to kick off the Fall season is by going to the Arizona State Fair. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made by honoring this tradition; so it was really exciting that this year I was able to bring my own daughter.
We got two tickets free for spending over $50 at Fry’s. This is a special they have every year and it’s worth it if you are looking to save a bit of money. Adult admission into the fair is $10, with kids over 4 and seniors costing $7. I believe they also let you in free if you have a military ID.
The weather was perfect. It was breezy and even though it got hot before we left, it wasn’t unbearable. We left around 11:30 (they don’t open until Noon on Fridays) and left around 3. It wasn’t too crowded, and we even won Charlie two stuffed animals! One of the men was kind enough to give her one after she tried throwing a few balls to pop the balloons. Did you know they don’t use the darts anymore for that game!?
Of course Trav and I used to love drinking beer, eat food, and walk around looking at the exhibits; but things have changed a bit since we’ve had Charlie. Instead of beer we had some amazing Strawberry lemonade and split a bunch of delicious foods. Our favorites each year are a corn dog, curly fries, turkey leg, Navajo taco, and this years all time-fave: DOLE WHIP. Ugh, I just love food, guys. Charlie couldn’t get enough of the Dole Whip. They even had different flavors, too! Strawberry, lemon, mango, and Pineapple.
We tried to take Charlie to see the farm animals and ride on the carousel, but she cried at both. She had missed her morning nap, so that on top of the sensory overload from all of the new stimuli; I think she was feeling overwhelmed. We will try again next year and hope that she is more excited. Friends are telling me that it’s a normal reaction. I was a bit nervous being a first-time parent; I thought she would be way more stoked about everything than she was.
All in all though, it was a great way to get in some family time, cardio, and good food. Next up will be the pumpkin patch for some hayrides and petting zoo’s! Hopefully round two will be more successful.
